Groups

RAJSA Groups are locally based networks of Justices of the Peace who come together to support one another, share knowledge, and, in some cases, coordinate community witnessing services.

Groups play an important role in creating connection and confidence for members, particularly those who value collegial support and local contact. Participation in a Group is flexible, voluntary, and members can choose how involved they wish to be.

You do not have to attend all meeting. Groups exist to support members, not add pressure.

Why Join a Group

Many Justices of the Peace join a Group because it offers:

  • local contact and peer support
  • a way to learn from experienced members
  • reassurance when questions or unusual situations arise
  • a sense of connection within the JP community

Groups can be particularly helpful for newly appointed JPs, but experienced members also value the opportunity to share knowledge and support others.

Central Group

Central Group has served the Justice of the Peace community since 1964. We provide face-to-face training on topics relevant to active JPs, updates on current issues and networking for mutual support. We are based in the near metropolitan southern and western area, with most of our meetings held at the SACOSS Headquarters, 47 King William Road, Unley 5061.

Our aim is to provide an environment where all our members can participate fully in training and discussion, and to ensure that newer (and longer-term) members have the opportunity to learn from other members’ experience.

We welcome guests and visits from members of other groups at our meetings.

Central Hills Group

Central Hills Group was set up primarily as a training group by a small group of Hill's based Justices of the Peace who were volunteering their services in Day Rooms, as it was felt there were not sufficient opportunities for regular and ongoing professional development in this region. Our goal was to make each meeting a training opportunity, preceded by a short general meeting. Since then, our membership has grown and comprises not only those Justices on the Day Room Roster, but also many who are simply Justices in the area and are benefiting from our Professional Development programme.

Our group now offers an expanded Day Room Service available at 4 venues in Mount Barker on 5 days a week. 23 regular JP Volunteers are rostered to deliver this service, which is generously supported by the District Council of Mount Barker and operates under the umbrella of their Community Volunteer Programme.

The Professional Development programme offered by the CHJP group covers topics from the RAJSA PDC-approved training modules and is delivered by accredited trainers.

We now offer three Wednesday evening PD sessions per year, held immediately following our General meeting on those evenings, and three Saturday morning dedicated PD sessions per year. This enables opportunities for ongoing training for working and non-working Justices, and is offered to any JP, whether a member of our Group or not.
